Some nights the body is done and the head has not caught up. This is a cup for those nights. Old evening herbs steeped together into something that tastes good enough to look forward to.
Caffeine free. Best taken 30 to 60 minutes before bed.
What is in Sleep Tea?
-
Chamomile. The classic evening herb, and the one nearly every tradition landed on.
-
Gotu Kola. A traditional Ayurvedic leaf with a long record of use.
-
Orange Peel. Bright and citrusy, and it lifts the whole cup.
-
Lavender. Aromatic. The smell is half of what it is doing.
-
Cinnamon Bark. Warming, and one of the oldest spices in the trade.
-
Licorice Root. Naturally sweet, so the cup does not need honey.
-
Cardamom Seed. Aromatic and a little resinous, the note that ties it to chai.
How do I use Sleep Tea?
Steep 1 tablespoon in 8 oz of hot water for 8 to 10 minutes, covered, so the volatile oils stay in the cup instead of on the ceiling. Drink it 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The making of it is part of the point. Standing at the stove waiting on a kettle is itself a way of putting the day down.
What does Sleep Tea taste like?
Soft and warm, with the chamomile and lavender out front and the cinnamon and cardamom underneath. The licorice makes it sweet on its own, so most people drink it plain. A shorter steep gives you a lighter cup.
Read this before you drink it
- Licorice root can raise blood pressure and lower potassium when it is taken daily over a long stretch. If you are managing blood pressure, are pregnant, or take a diuretic or heart medication, talk to your provider first.
- Gotu kola makes some people drowsy, which is the idea here, but talk to your provider if you have liver trouble.
- Chamomile belongs to the daisy family. If ragweed or marigolds bother you, chamomile can too.
Does the blend ever change?
Formulas get adjusted from time to time. The list on this page is the current blend and the list on your bag is what is in your bag. If the two disagree, trust the bag and tell us so we can fix the page.
Where does this tea come from?
This is not one we formulate ourselves. We source the blend and pack it by hand here in Opp, Alabama. No artificial flavors and no melatonin. Just herbs.
