Golden milk has been warming people up for a very long time. It is not a trend, whatever the internet says about it. It is a traditional Ayurvedic preparation, and it was in cups for centuries before anybody put it on a menu.
Ours starts with real turmeric root powder and the warming spices that have always gone with it, put up in small batches and packed by hand here in Opp, Alabama.
What is in Turmeric Golden Milk?
Turmeric root powder, cinnamon, ginger, black pepper, cardamom. Five things. The black pepper is in there because turmeric and pepper have always been taken together, in every tradition that uses either one, and we did not see a reason to be the first to separate them.
How do I make golden milk?
Whisk 1 teaspoon of Turmeric Golden Milk into 8 to 10 oz of warm milk. Dairy, oat, almond, whatever is in the refrigerator. Sweeten to taste with honey if you want it. It is traditionally a warm evening cup, and that is when most people drink it here.
What does it taste like?
Earthy and warm, with a real gentle heat at the back from the pepper and the ginger. The cinnamon and cardamom give it a natural sweetness, so it needs less honey than people expect. It is rich enough to feel like a treat, which is the reason it survived as a nightly habit.
Where does the turmeric come from?
This is a blend we source and pack by hand here on the farm in Opp, Alabama. We grew turmeric in our own rows for years and we know the plant well, but we are not growing it now, and the turmeric in this blend did not come off our ground. We put it up in small batches, and we will always tell you straight what is ours and what we bring in.
