Most moringa comes from India or Africa. It is dried, bagged, and shipped thousands of miles before anybody sells it to you. Ours was standing in Alabama soil last season. We cut it here, dry it here, and ship it from our farm in Opp. Every bit of our moringa is grown on this farm, and we have been growing it in these rows since 2015.
This is the whole leaf, not the powder. It keeps longer, and you can see exactly what you bought.
How do I use dried moringa leaves?
Dried moringa leaves can be brewed as a tea, crumbled into food, or ground into your own powder. For tea, steep 1 to 2 teaspoons in 8 oz of hot water for 5 to 10 minutes. For cooking, crumble the leaves into soup, stew, rice, or eggs after the heat is off. Start with a teaspoon and work up from there.
What does moringa tea taste like?
Mild and grassy, close to a light green tea, and not bitter. Most people drink it plain. Honey or lemon works if you want it, but it does not need rescuing the way some herb teas do. If you have had matcha, you are in the right neighborhood.
Why buy whole leaf instead of moringa powder?
Whole leaf keeps better and it is honest. You can look at it and see leaf, which you cannot do with a powder. Powder is more convenient for smoothies and capsules, and you can make your own by crushing this leaf whenever you want it. Same plant, different job.
Is your moringa grown in the United States?
Yes. Every bit of our moringa is grown on our farm in Opp, Alabama. We cut it, dry it at low temperature, and pack it here. Nothing in this bag was imported, and nothing was bought in from an overseas supplier. If you want to know which week it was cut, ask us and we will tell you.
How do I store dried moringa leaves?
Keep them in a sealed container away from heat and light. Stored that way, dried moringa leaves hold up for 12 to 18 months. Heat and sunlight are what take the color and the flavor out of them, so the cabinet beats the windowsill.
Is moringa safe to eat every day?
Moringa is a food. Whole cultures have eaten it daily for generations, in soups and in stews and in whatever else was on the fire. Start with a small amount and pay attention to how you feel. If you take prescription medication, ask your doctor first, since moringa can interact with some drugs.
How is it grown?
Regenerative practices on our farm in Opp, Alabama. No pesticides and no synthetic inputs. We dry it at low temperature and pack it in small batches, on the same ground where it grew. We have been growing and processing medicinal herbs here since 2011.
