Some nights the body is done and the head has not caught up. This is a cup for those nights. Six of the old evening herbs of the Western tradition, steeped together into something that tastes good enough to look forward to.
Caffeine free. Best taken 30 to 60 minutes before bed.
What is in Sleep Tea?
-
Chamomile. The classic evening herb, and the one nearly every tradition landed on.
-
Passionflower. Traditionally taken at night, and one of the better-studied nervines.
-
Valerian Root. Centuries of traditional use, and the strongest thing in the cup.
-
Lemon Balm. Calming and bright, and it pairs with chamomile on flavor alone.
-
Lavender. Aromatic. The smell is half of what it is doing.
-
Skullcap. A traditional nervine, long used for everyday tension.
How do I use Sleep Tea?
Steep 1 tablespoon of Sleep Tea in 8 oz of hot water for 8 to 10 minutes, covered, so the volatile oils stay in the cup instead of on the ceiling. Drink it 30 to 60 minutes before bed. The making of it is part of the point. Standing at the stove waiting on a kettle is itself a way of putting the day down.
What does Sleep Tea taste like?
Floral and soft, with the chamomile and lavender out front. Valerian has an earthy, almost musty note that some people love and some people do not, and the lemon balm is what keeps it in balance. A shorter steep gives you a milder cup if the valerian is too much.
Can I add valerian extract to it?
People do. The tea already has valerian leaf in it, and some folks add a dropperful of our Valerian Extract to the same cup on the nights they want more of it. Start with the tea alone for a week before you decide.
Where does this tea come from?
Packed by hand at our farm in Opp, Alabama. No artificial flavors and no melatonin. Just herbs.
