Hawthorn Berry Extract
Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) is one of the old ones. In European herbal tradition it was classed as a tonic herb, taken slowly and for a long time rather than reached for in a hurry. Hedgerows full of it, and generations of people who knew what it was for.
We make this extract in small batches on our farm in Opp, Alabama.
What is hawthorn traditionally used for?
Hawthorn berry has a long history of traditional use as a tonic herb in European and folk practice. A tonic, in that tradition, means something gentle and cumulative rather than sharp and fast. It was taken daily for months at a stretch, not by the spoonful in an emergency. We make no medical claims about it.
How do I take hawthorn extract?
Shake well. Take 1 to 2 dropperfuls of hawthorn extract in water, two or three times a day. Tradition treats it as a long-game herb, taken steadily day after day.
What is in it?
Hawthorn berry (Crataegus monogyna), full-spectrum extract in alcohol. No additives and no fillers. Available in 1 oz and 2 oz dropper bottles.
What does full spectrum mean?
It means we extract the whole berry instead of pulling out one compound and throwing away the rest.
Can I take hawthorn with prescription heart medication?
Ask your cardiologist first, and do not skip this one. Hawthorn can interact with prescription cardiovascular drugs, digoxin and beta-blockers in particular. If you take heart medication of any kind, that conversation happens before the first dropperful, not after.
