Hawthorn (Crataegus spp.) is one of the old ones. In European herbal tradition it was classed as a cardiotonic, a tonic herb, and it was taken slowly and for a long time rather than reached for in a hurry. Hedgerows full of it, and generations of people who knew what it was for.

What is hawthorn traditionally used for?

Hawthorn berry has a long history of traditional use as a tonic herb in European and folk practice. A tonic, in that tradition, means something gentle and cumulative rather than sharp and fast. It was taken daily for months at a stretch, not by the spoonful in an emergency. We make no medical claims about it.

How do I take hawthorn extract?

Shake well. Take 1 to 2 dropperfuls of hawthorn extract in water, two or three times a day. It is a long-game herb by tradition, so nothing much happens in the first week and it is not supposed to. People who use it give it 4 to 8 weeks of steady daily use before they judge it.

What is in it?

What does full spectrum mean?

It means we extract the whole berry instead of pulling out one compound and throwing away the rest. Hawthorn's traditional standing comes from a complex of flavonoids and oligomeric proanthocyanidins that occur together in the fruit, and whole-berry extraction keeps them together.
