Ours was standing in the Alabama sun a few weeks ago. Most moringa powder comes out of India or Africa and passes through a warehouse or two before anybody sells it to you. We grow the trees here in Opp, cut the leaf by hand, dry it slow, and grind it fresh. That is the whole process. No middlemen and no mystery about where it came from.
What is moringa?
Moringa (Moringa oleifera) is a fast-growing tree, native to India, that has been eaten as food for thousands of years. The leaves are the part people use, and they dry and grind well. It is not an extract and not an isolate. It is a whole food, and the powder holds what the living leaf held.
How do I use moringa leaf powder?
Moringa powder goes into smoothies, coffee, soups, stews, salad dressings, eggs, and baked goods. Start with half a teaspoon a day and work up to a full teaspoon as you get used to it. A 2 oz pouch lasts most people several weeks of daily use. Stir it in near the end of cooking rather than boiling it hard.
What does moringa powder taste like?
Mild, earthy, a little grassy. Close to matcha but less bitter. It blends into a smoothie without taking it over and it disappears entirely into anything savory. If you have ever put spinach in something and forgotten it was there, that is the experience.
Where is your moringa grown?
Every bit of our moringa is grown on our farm in Opp, Alabama. We have been growing it in these rows since 2015. We do not import it and we do not buy it in from outside suppliers. Every bag came off trees we planted, cut and dried and ground by us.
How is your moringa dried and processed?
We cut the leaf by hand and dry it at low temperature, then grind it into a fine powder. Low and slow is the whole trick, because heat is what takes the color out of a green leaf. No additives, no preservatives, no fillers.
Do you use pesticides?
No. We use no chemical fertilizers, no pesticides, and no herbicides, on the moringa or on anything else in our rows. We farm regeneratively, which means the goal is to leave the soil better than we found it rather than to mine it.
Can I take moringa powder every day?
Moringa is a food, and it is eaten daily in kitchens across a lot of the world. Start small and pay attention to how you feel. If you are pregnant, nursing, or taking prescription medication, ask your doctor before you make it a habit.
