This is a mullein tea first, with red raspberry leaf for the finish. Our first batch was two parts mullein to one part raspberry leaf, and the raspberry got lost in the cup. We kept adding raspberry leaf until the two came out even, and that is the tea in this bag.
The cup is smooth and mellow, and the raspberry leaf comes through at the end. There is a soft vanilla note in the finish too. We don't add any vanilla. It comes from the two leaves together.
Mullein has a long history in folk practice as a lung and throat herb, and raspberry leaf has been brewed as a household tea for generations. Read more about mullein and how people have used it.
How to Brew
Steep a heaping teaspoon in a cup of hot water for 8 to 10 minutes. Strain it through a fine strainer or use a tea ball, because mullein leaf has fine hairs you don't want in your cup.
What's in It
Mullein leaf (Verbascum thapsus) and red raspberry leaf (Rubus idaeus). Nothing else. No vanilla and no flavoring.
Where It Comes From
We harvest the mullein by hand from wild stands on our place and in our neighbors' clean fields, then dry it on screens in the studio. It is the same leaf that goes into our Dried Mullein Leaf. The raspberry leaf we buy in. We blend and bag every batch by hand here in Opp, Alabama.
If you like a brighter cup, try our Mullein Lemon Balm Tea.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does it taste like raspberries?
Not like the berry. This is raspberry leaf, not fruit. The leaf tastes mild and a little like black tea without the caffeine, and it comes through at the end of the cup.
Is there vanilla in it?
No. The vanilla you taste comes from the mullein and raspberry leaf together. Nothing is added.
Is the raspberry leaf grown on your farm?
No, we buy the raspberry leaf in. The mullein is wildcrafted, and we harvest it by hand.
Can I drink it while pregnant?
If you are pregnant or nursing, talk with your midwife or doctor before you drink this tea. Red raspberry leaf is an herb people ask about a lot during pregnancy, and that is a conversation to have with someone who knows your situation.
How is this different from your Mullein Lemon Balm Tea?
Both start with the same mullein. Lemon balm gives that cup a bright, lemony edge. Raspberry leaf gives this one a rounder cup with a soft finish.
